Moving on From Bobby Pins and Claw Clips, We’re All Jumping on the French Pin Trend This Season

French hairpins have been popular for centuries; they have existed in different creative variations to keep hair off the face. Recently, these chic pins have found their way into modern fashion. People now accessorize their hair with French pins using different styles. They are the new claw clips! This article is about the uniqueness of French pins and different styles to try out with these pins when you next visit the salon.

French Pins and Bobby Pins

Although French pins may look similar to bobby pins, they serve different functions. The French hairpin is all about sweeping up the hair as a whole or securing a part of it. Bobby pins are for keeping wigs and hairpieces in place.

While bobby pins are slimmer and are made to keep hairstyles in place, French pins are wider and are designed to make updos. The idea behind French pins is to keep hair away from the face while looking chic and fashionable.

Half-Up Knot

A half-up knot is a more casual version of the classic chignon; it’s a simpler style that gives the appeal of the chignon hairstyle. Creating this style with a French pin is easier than it looks.

With your fingers or a brush, rake up a section of your hair in a half-up pony. Then, insert the French pin into the ponytail or bun vertically and twist it slightly to cross the prongs over each other. For a romantic touch, a few waves to the loose lengths.

Classic Twist

The classic twist is suitable for medium to long hair. It is a popular hairstyle that you might have done in high school with just a pencil. It has an effortless theme that makes it look flattering.

Instead of making your hair into a regular ponytail, you could take things up a notch with this style. The key is allowing some stray hair to make you look like a pretty bride.

Half Bun

If you have short hair and you’d like to jump on the French hairpin trend, this half bun is a sure bet. Although it’s a classic style that requires a bit of practice, you will get the hang of it after a few hair stylist appointments.

After rolling your hair in a low bun or high bun (or anything in between), insert the stylish pin to keep the bun together. You could also make a full bun instead of half; it’d look great.

Contemporary Twist

The contemporary twist is nothing less than a classic updo with a relaxed yet adorable touch. You can simply twist your hair up or ask your hairstylist to do a more elaborate twist.

Loop the pins through the twisted-up hair, starting from the middle. It’s always advisable to spray your hair with texturizing spray or powder texturizer; this makes it more gritty and easier for the pin to hold your hair in place.
