Sorry to break it to you, but freshman year of college is hard. From starting over after your high school senior year to making new friends, several challenges make going to college stressful. But what about your wardrobe? The biggest stressor of all! To help cut the stress out of all that goes into packing for college, we have compiled a list of essential items you need for your wardrobe.
Formal dresses for fancy parties
Whether or not you’re a party animal, you’ll be attending some events and parties at school. Having a dress that suits fancy dinners, dances, or nice parties will save you the time and money of having to buy a dress last minute online.
Throughout college, there will be a point where you have to dress formally, and it’s best to have a dress you love in your closet. We suggest having both a black cocktail dress and a longer formal dress on hand.
Versatile shoes
We call this category ‘versatile’ for a reason– they are footwear that can serve more than one purpose. While you want to pack a dozen pairs of different shoes, a pair of simple Low Top Converse or Nike shoes can go a long way.
You can bring a pair of shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty- you’ll need them for those wild frat parties. You’ll also need comfortable shoes for walking to class. To complete things, add a pair of heels for nice parties, and you’re set!
Tees for class and hangouts
You need to get a few basic tees or tank tops of varying lengths in different basic colors like black, white, gray, and navy blue. Trust us, not having a black tee for a small hangout can frustrate you.
Also, spice things up by taking graphic print tees that feature a band or a cute saying. You can wear them under cardigans and jackets or alone during summer.
Jeans for class
This college wardrobe essentials list wouldn’t be complete without jeans. Don’t just fill your closet with casual jeans. Pay attention to high-quality jeans for class or parties. We recommend a straight-leg, slightly fitting pair for a more classy look for a college student.
Low-waist jeans look great with either baggy tees or crop tops, so you might want to get one or two pairs. However, high-waisted jeans are dope, too; just pair them with a simple top or shirt. Buy them in different washes too.
Leggings for the gym and casual strolls
You may have heard that you’re going to be living in leggings at least half of the time in college- well, it’s true. Students just can’t trade their comfort and ease, especially when it comes to trekking across campus day in and day out.
Instead of getting separate pairs for sports and casuals, we recommend getting two or three workout leggings. While workout leggings are technically for workouts, they are super rugged, hence their versatility. You could get budget-friendly running leggings from Old Navy or even on Amazon.
